“Big changes are on the horizon for downtown Ronan. A new Facade Improvement Grant Program is in the works, aiming to help local businesses refresh their storefronts and restore pride to Main Street — one coat of paint at a time.”
A New Look for Main Street: Ronan’s Facade Grant Program Aims to Reinvigorate Downtown

Ronan, MT – Big changes could be coming to Main Street — and they might just be dressed in fresh paint, new signs, and a whole lot of hometown charm. A new Facade Improvement Grant Program is currently in the planning stages, with the goal of giving Ronan’s downtown businesses the support they need to refresh their storefronts and help re-energize the heart of the community.
The program, coordinated through Mission West Community Development Partners with support from the Montana Department of Commerce, is designed to help revitalize the appearance of Ronan’s business district, preserve historical charm, and boost community pride — all while supporting local economic growth.
When it launches, the program will provide matching grants to business and property owners within the downtown district for exterior upgrades. Eligible improvements are expected to include fresh paint, updated siding, window and door replacements, exterior lighting, awning repairs, signage improvements, and masonry work.
“It's not just about appearances,” said one local business owner involved in the planning. “This is about bringing life back to Main Street. When buildings look cared for, people take more pride — and more foot traffic follows.”

To help shape the direction and look of Main Street, a design subcommittee has been formed. This group will work on developing cohesive style guidelines to help businesses navigate the upgrade process while maintaining visual unity and character. The committee will meet throughout April, May, and June 2025, with plans to release official guidelines by July 1, 2025.
“It’s not just about appearances,” said one local business owner involved in the planning. “This is about bringing life back to Main Street. When buildings look cared for, people take more pride — and more foot traffic follows.”
The facade project also sets the stage for potential public art installations, including murals that could add local culture and storytelling to previously blank walls. The mural initiative will be guided by the same vision and aesthetic laid out in the forthcoming style guide.
Business owners interested in applying for the program will need to wait until the application period officially opens. Mission West will provide further details on how to prepare, including the documentation and estimates needed for submission.

“I’ve lived in Ronan my whole life, and I love this town — but let’s be honest, Main Street could use a little love. It’s time we freshen things up and show people that this place is worth investing in.” ~ Longtime Ronan Resident
